AESE Annual Meeting
October 8-12, 2012
San Diego, California, USA
The 2012 AESE Annual meeting returns to the Hacienda Hotel in Old Town, San Diego. There will be an evening reception on October 8 at the Cosmopolitan Hotel and Restaurant, which has a bar that was owned by Wyatt Earp. Our business luncheon on October 9 will be held at the same restaurant. It is about two blocks from the Hacienda Hotel in Old Town San Diego, where we have reserved rooms and the technical sessions will be held. At the awards dinner on October 10, Diana Lindsay of Sunbelt Publications will be our keynote speaker and will introduce us to the sculptures of the Anza-Borrego Desert.
On October 11, we will board a bus and head east to Lowell and Diana Lindsay's book warehouse to peruse books that they publish and distribute on southern California and Mexico. We will then wander through the mountains farther east (San Diego Association of Geologists just published a guidebook on that area, which will be given out at the meeting), have lunch at a friend's cabin or at a beautiful overlook of the desert, then drop down to the desert to visit the sculptures that Diana will have talked about the night before.
There will be a few things different this year for the meeting. Before the bus takes us back to San Diego, we will have a dinner and wine tasting at Menghini Winery in Julian, California, so don't book your flights home until October 12! October 11 will be a full day but a lot of fun.
Two other things will be different this year. The board meetings will be on October 8 starting at 1 p.m. and on October 12 for a full meeting instead of the hurried gathering before our field trip as has happened in the recent past. Take note, board members, when booking your flights. The third thing that will be different is that the survey and freelancer breakfasts will not cost extra this year. Breakfast is included in the price of the hotel room, so we will just take reservations for a private table in the dining room for those who want to meet.
Vice president Melanie Parker is working on the technical sessions, and I think you will enjoy what she has in mind for this year. More information will be coming on that part of the meeting soon. Hotel booking information can be found here.
We hope to see you in San Diego in October!
